The prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri, that could be characterised as the prehistoric Pompeii of the Aegean, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Eastern Mediterranean. It is believed to be associated with the Minoan civilization, located on the nearby island of Crete. The visitors can walk through the amazing, well-preserved prehistoric city that was buried under the volcanic ash as a result of eruption of the volcano that occurred in 17th century BC.
